So about your English...

I wish I could tell eharmony not match me with people who don't have excellent English. This guy wrote something about "my advisor in the grad school," and I'm thinking, if he makes mistakes like that, how can I be my smartass articulate self?

I can't!

Ah, well. This girl from the Surrendered Single intro thing I went to said she signed up for eharmony for a year and met her fiancee right when the subscription was about to run out. That'll be in late November for me.

Was that the only error? If so, I think it could be over looked. Or, if a guy is a real science-y type...their English grammar is not what their brain is concerned with?
But, trust yourself!

He's probably not a native speaker. I dated a French guy for two years, and I always gave him a free pass on grammar and spelling stuff, on the grounds that my French was way worse than his English. Native speakers who can't write--now, that is unattractive. I'm a teacher, and poor writing would make me feel like I'm dating my student. Not sexy!

SS does say to throw out your checklist.

I had an eHarmony account for a while, and I had the worst luck with it. I didn't meet anyone remotely interesting, and because you can't search their database, I couldn't go searching for that person myself. I've had much, much better luck with match.com. I wrote a really particular profile that was meant to scare away anyone who couldn't deal with smart, successful women, or organized religion. It also scared away all the Republicans. Not many people responded to my profile, but the ones who did were largely really great.

Perhaps there are regional difference in who uses each service. eHarmony where I am sucks, but perhaps in Miami, it's the place to go.

He's Indian. Which is fine, but only if he's got near-perfect English, which I require of any immigrant I date!

My recent eharmony matches have been pretty underwhelming. They were better when I joined last November. I found match was like being in a bar, just meeting random people. eharmony seems to match me with somewhat more appropriate matches. Sort of...

Did that gal at the workshop WORK for the group or perhaps was a plant?

Are you "done" with this guy?

I think the workshop woman was telling the truth.
